With the country facing overwhelming scrutiny and turmoil in regards to racial tension, the Red Sox have tried to be proactive: They are trying to get the street that is currently named Yawkey Way renamed. Thomas Yawkey was the old owner of the Red Sox, but was known as a notoriously racist person (the Sox were the last team to integrate). Rather than salute a racist and a bigot, the team is working to try to get rid of the name.
It’s not up to the team but they can spearhead the battle with the city of Boston.
