David Price Has Some Elbow Soreness

The Red Sox received great news back in Spring Training when we learned that left-handed pitcher David Price did not need Tommy John Surgery.

However, we still have no idea when we will see the $217 million man, because Price is experiencing some elbow soreness.

As the article above notes, Price has been long tossing and the soreness hasn’t stopped him from throwing, but it’s hardly an encouraging sign.

As Buster Olney of ESPN noted with ‘The Huddle’ yesterday, Price has yet to begin throwing breaking balls. That is also not an encouraging sign, because Price hasn’t done some of the most important steps toward getting back on the mound in a serious and competitive situation.

The Red Sox have made good with their rotation because of Chris Sale’s dominance early on — and the help provided by a top offense, but if Price is out longer than expected, or experiences more problems with that elbow, the team could be looking for outside help.
