Should Fans Dictate Moves that Teams Make?

The saying goes “The owners that listen to the fans are destined to become them.”

And with that, we get this comment out of Baltimore that says that the Orioles won’t pursue Jose Bautista because their fans don’t like him. Bautista has had some issues with O’s pitcher Darren O’Day and O’s outfielder Adam Jones, so it makes sense that fans don’t like Bautista — in fact most fans don’t like the Blue Jays because of the way they play the game — but is that a reason to not sign a player?

Frankly, no. I understand if you want to go talk to your veteran core of players and ask their opinion, but you shouldn’t certainly be listening to fans. If Jose Bautista helped the Orioles win a World Series, I think the fans would like him just fine.
