Could Baseball Be Headed For a Lockout?

Baseball hasn’t had any real labor turmoil since the strike of 1994-1995, but could we be headed for turmoil in the next week?

A lockout is reportedly on the table as the collective bargaining agreement is set to expire on Dec. 1. Of course, this could be a threat to leverage action, but it could also be a reality.

There are apparently several differences left to work out but some of the main ones are that the players want free agency to not be tied to draft pick compensation. This will allow more free movement of players and players won’t be restricted in free agency. Owners would like to see an international draft instituted rather than international signings because it will allow teams to pay players from oversees less. Players do not favor that.

We will see what happens in the next week, but it certainly wouldn’t be a good time for labor turmoil, with the game in a good spot and coming off a monster World Series.
