When the Norwich University men’s hockey team topped Castleton on Saturday, the win propelled the Cadets to 5-1 overall on the young season – but it also brought a little bit of history with it.

Cadets head coach Mike McShane won his 700th game in the process, becoming the seventh coach in NCAA history to achieve that milestone.
McShane is in his 22nd season at Norwich after spending time at Division I St. Lawrence and Providence.

McShane is 456-123-34 in his 22 seasons at Norwich and he has guided the Cadets to three national championships, 17 NEHC regular season titles, 11 NEHC Tournament titles and 11 NCAA D-III Frozen Four appearances.
The Cadets will take the ice again in the PrimeLink Shootout, which features Middlebury and Plattsburgh as well. The tournament is the Friday after Thanksgiving at Stafford Ice Arena in Plattsburgh.
And also? Norwich women’s coach Mark Bolding recorded his 200th win in Friday night’s win.
