Betts: Don’t Regret Turning Down Sox Extension

Former Red Sox OF Mookie Betts was traded this past offseason to the Los Angeles Dodgers with one year left on his contract. The thought process was that Betts was going to get a massive amount of money in free agency and potentially challenge the $400 million total mark.

But because of the Coronavirus, Betts is now in a very precarious spot where it certainly looks like he’ll be lucky to get $300, and he may not even get that.

But Betts says he doesn’t regret the decision to turn down that extension in Boston. He’ll be a free agent at the end of the season and will be able to choose his team once again, but no one knows how much money he’ll get.

He won the MVP in 2018 for the World Series champion Sox and is currently 27 years old. He’ll be 28 in October.
