As part of the efforts to save money amid the Coronavirus pandemic, the New York Yankees released 45 minor league players on Monday.

It’s sad to see this happen, but given the (probable) lack of a minor league season and possible future contraction of minor league teams, teams simply need less players. And by saving the $400 per week on every player released, the Yankees are saving money which helps offset losses.
