Former Red Sox starting pitcher, Cy Young winner and World Series champion David Price has elected sit out the 2020 MLB season over concerns from the Coronavirus.
How does David Price's opt out impact the 2020 finances for the Red Sox?

This decision will save the Red Sox almost $6 million as Price would have received a nearly $12 million pro rated salary for the 60-game season. The Red Sox were going to pay half of his salary and the Dodgers were to pay the other half per the trade the two completed earlier this offseaosn.
For a team that is cash strapped in 2020, this move represents a significant development for Boston, who could use that money in other places as they look to compete in a loaded American League East.
