Colorado Rockies OF and former Vermont Lake Monster Ian Desmond is sitting out the 2020 MLB season over a variety of reasons. He posted a lengthy and impassioned message on Instagram announcing his decision.
The Rockies’ Ian Desmond has opted out of the 2020 season, but that feels secondary to a heartfelt, incisive Instagram post about his place in the world and baseball’s as well. The whole post is here: https://t.co/rLnOu3CP2k.

Desmond cites wanting to be with his family, to help his pregnant wife, and the ongoing struggle for racial justice as key factors in his decision to sit out.
His entire post is worth a read. Desmond played four games for the Vermont Expos in 2004 before shooting up the minor league system.
