Questioning Bill Belichick and the Patriots doesn’t ever seem to work out, so I try to stay away from it, so I will just present this information as is and offer an objective view on each.
#Patriots sign WR Griff Whalen: https://t.co/JVq1fY8PXg

Griff Whalen is a 5-11 wide receiver who has a decent track record in the NFL. He’s 26 years old. From the Pats press release:
Whalen had several stints on the Colts 53-man roster and practice squad. Over three seasons with Indianapolis, he posted 45 receptions for 487 yards and three touchdowns. His most productive season on offense came in 2013 when he caught 24 passes for 259 yards and two touchdowns. Whalen also saw action on special teams, with 46 punt returns for 376 yards and 25 kickoff returns for 645 yards.
Why the Move Makes Sense:
1) There is just isn’t a lot available right now. So if you need bodies, you can’t be choosy.
2) The injury to Danny Amendola means the Pats needed a new special teamer, and Whalen has experience returning both punts and kicks.
3) He’s a small, slot-type receiver. We know Tom Brady is comfortable with these types of players, so why not keep going to the well?
Why I Question the Move:
1) You already have Julian Edelman. These two are the same prototype of players. Why not try to diversify your personnel? For a team that lacks a home run threat — and now depth at TE — why not look for something else?
