About 30 minutes before the beginning of ‘The Huddle’ we caught wind of a big announcement to be made by the University of Vermont athletic program. We were hoping it was positive news like the news that maybe the combo ice arena/basketball facility that has been on the table for years was finally going to happen.
Instead, we got terrible news from administrators who announced that UVM was suspended four hockey players (both captains and two of three co-captains) for the first five games of the season for leading an initiation of first-year players that included alcohol and players wearing boxer shorts, according to reports.

In addition to the suspension of the four players for five games, the University is placing the program on one-year probation, but that does not include loss of games or a postseason ban at this time.
This is not the first hazing incident to affect the hockey program. Back in 2000, more than a dozen games were canceled by the program, ending the season.
We got all the deals on today’s developments from Austin Danforth of the Burlington Free Press, who was there for the announcement.
